95 Sonoma lower ball joint

Hello, I have all the bolts unbolted, but can't seem to get the lower arm separated far enough from the rotor spindle to get the ball joint out and the new one in. Do I have to take the upper ball joint off also? or is ther a way to get the lower one out? this is on a 4WD truck.
