Where is the cabin filter under the dash and how do I replace it?

Is there a filter in the rear area and how do I replace it?

I have started to get a nasty odor from the vents when the HVAC is running.

Any suggestions is greatly appreciated.

What your looking for is the cabin air filter. I am in the process replacing mine again on our 2001 Hoe. The GM part number is #52485513. It's about $28.00 and up at the dealer. You can get it for about the same with shipping at www.gmpartsdirect.com. The filter is located on the passenger side under the dash. Remove the lower black cover. Then there will be a retangle access plate. Remove that, and there will two filters. You will have to reach in to get the second one. You may want to to spray the new filter with a little Fabreeze. Yeah, once they been there awhile, it smells bad. As far as ones in the rear A/C, I don't know if there is one, check you maintenance manual.Mine only indicated one...Let me know how you make out............

Just a update, I replaced the filter. The dealer finally gave it to me for $24.50 after haggling. There are two screws under the blower housing (socket 7mm), pull down the cover. Look behind wiring harness for single screw (socket is 7 3/2). Remove L- shape cover. You will find the two filters....
