Water Pump Info.

FYI. If anyone has/had experienced a serious coolant leak in the front of their engine, try checking the water pump! The Chevy Dealer told me I had a leaking lower intake that caused me to loose coolant. Half-truth! I do need to reseal my gasket, but it was not the cause of the leak. Because of the price quoted to reseal my lower intake ($500), I decided to look into the problem further and came to the conclusion that the water pump had to be the culprit. I had a friend who knows cars look at it for a 2nd opinion. He agreed it was the reason for the leak. So I bought a water pump ($53 @ Autozone), a gallon of coolant ($8.99), and some sealant ($1.99). It only took me about 2–2 ˝ hours to complete the job. Once done, I road tested my truck, allowed it to sit for a few hours to see if there was any coolant loss, and no coolant was found leaking. Total cost was roughly $67.00! (a savings of $433!). Also, YOU WILL NEED A FAN CLUTCH WRENCH to remove the fan clutch assembly! You can rent it @ Autozone for $30.00 and return it to get your refund. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REPLACE YOUR PUMP WITHOUT FIRST HAVING THIS WRENCH! You’ll be wasting your time if you do. I hope this helps those who may have this problem. I believe in sharing valuable information with others.

Thanks for the Info on the fan clutch wrench, I will keep that in mind if and when my water pump ever goes out.

I used this to remove the clutch fan - worked awsome. It's kind of an odd tool to have but I was looking over my tools wonder what I could.

If there isn't an autozone nearby it can be removed with a wrench and a few taps of a hammer, here's a quick walkthrough for changing out a pump:
