LT1 to LT4?

I did a search and found stuff but didnt find everything I was looking for, so I thought I'd post here with all you friendly people! So I'm garaging the car for winter and so I'll have some spare change accumulated and want to do something to my car after winter. I looked on the internet and found some kits for this for about $3000. I could barely afford this now but I'm gonna wait cus you never know what could happen. So my questions are pretty much the ones you'd expect, how much would it cost to get this professionally done, how hard would it be to do alone, what kind of horsepower/torque changes am I looking at, and what other stuff am I looking at replacing if I want my car to survive the new engine? thanks

He'll set you up a kit for half the price and more hp/tq than the LT4 kit. I'd look into the LE1 or LE2 kit.

i've also heard from other members that the LT4 kit isnt worth the price, it supposedly offers nice gains.. but not as much as you could get for that kindof money. also, as far as doing it yourself, if you're willing to endure the aggravation, it will save you a bunch of money.. shops will kill you on the install because of that. personally, if i had any idea what i was doing, i'd do it myself.

All that money for 10% more efficient engine doesn't make much sence to me. For like 1/5 of that you can make more power and be just as fuel efficient. Let me know what your goal is and I am sure we can help you meet it for way under your budget. Also, anyone that takes there time and researches whats involved can do a head / cam swap. Its not rocket science but it does take patients and ability to follow directions well and basic understanding of the mechanics of how a cam/timing/rockers/valves/pushrods work.

those are some nice looking kits... with heads that flow that much, and a 58mm throttle body, some porting will have to be done to the intake manifold correct?

My goals would be just doing something different to the car, give it some new life and replace stuff. I've taken mechanics through school so I've got a good understanding for what works and how and stuff, but I'm just worried about being just a tiny bit off putting it back together and screwing up the timing and stuff. I'd also like to try and keep it N/A and work off a pretty tight budget, I don't wanna go crazy I just wanna spend a few thousand without throwing my gas milage out the window. Adding new parts to the block I've got now just seems exciting to me.
