so im pretty pissed about this.. i konw i know i have a lil road rage... who doesn't. well anyways i was going home and about to turn right into the far left lane because i needed to make a left turn at the light. As i begin to turn right.. there was a car who was speeding pretty fast and sped up to honk his horn at me. i stop at my turn light while his light was green. i decide to go follow this guy to talk to him and see what his problem was. I signal to get back into the straight lane and there was a cop right on the other side of me. SHe busts a U-turn and gets me for unsafe lane change and running a red, but the thing is i wasnt running a red and the cop had no way of seeing me run the red. it was green to yellow and as i exited, the light was red. i was contemplating about fighting this red light ticket, but it seems like all the cop needs to do is say i ran it, and i have no case.. wat should i do!!??! thanks!

No need to post the exact same thing twice. Like you said, it's your word against hers...and you don't have a good chance against a cop most of the time. You don't have a chance at arguing the unsafe lane change, as legally, you are supposed to turn from the right lane to the right lane, left to left, etc., not from the right lane into the far lane. The running the red, you may have a chance, but the cop is also able to tell what color your light was by looking at light for traffic going through the intersection. A yellow is supposed to last for, someone tell me if I'm wrong as I'm not positive, for 4.2 seconds, or something in that range, so she could have easily guestimated...not the best way to give a ticket, but hard to argue against her either way. Your best bet is just to go to court, NOT mention that you were trying to catch up with the other driver (I don't get why you would do that anyways...just let it roll off your shoulder), and you should be able to at least get it reduced just for showing up. I hate to say this, but a big part of a police officer's profession seems to be that of a liar. Your best bet is to go to traffic school and keep the offense off your record, if you can. The cop could say you were driving speed racers Mach 5 along a busy road with kids and in a school zone, or any other ridiculous story, and the judge would buy it.

Remember that it's only running a red light if any part of your car crosses (not already crossed) the intersection/restriction line when the light turns red. They have to prove that you ran the light...legally anyways. Traffic court judges suck though.
