Convert rear brakes

I would like to know how hard it would be to convert my rear drum to disk brakes? Anyone done this before? Any pros or cons in doing this? Also could someone inform me on how to paint the brake calipers and what "paint" you would reccommend or how to do it?

Can be done either with kits that can be bought (quite expensive) or by using parts from a junkyard, particularly, a Neon!

I know it is a lot of work. But do any of you think it would actually be worth it?

Ok, the looks is a +, but I don't race...ALlthough I do drive like 75-80 and will not slam but push fairly hard on the brakes to like 60 mph.

it would be worth it in performance and looks but for looks no one is really going to notice unless you point it out to the person who is checking out your car..cuz with your rims you really wouldnt notice the rear discs without looking closely...besides...no one really cares when it comes to comparing your car to someone elses in like a car show, wether or not you have 4 wheel disc brakes...besides..one negative that could come out of it is if you dont have the traction control ABS feature if you slam the brakes in the winter you'll lock up not only the front but the back aswell. but thats just my oppinion

Unless you have a pretty fast track car, I dont think they are worth it.

Yeah I'm going to start saving for the rear conversion/big brake upgrade and front big brake upgrade as well. It will run me almost $2Gs, but if I get the job I'm wanting which starts at $16.35 and hour (more than double what I make now) it won't take me long to get my upgrades.

I don't make enough money to move out right now, but as soon as I do...I'm gone. As far as family/kids...not for a while!

Yup, same here. As soon as I graduate college in May of '06 and get a way better job that pays around $16-$17, for the field i'm going into. I am deffinately moving out of my parents house.

rather than painting your brakes, I have found that the paint wears badly so I took mine off and appart and had them powder coated. This has so far proved to be beyond better than paint because not only is it more resistant to wear but also resists brake dust and does not get dirty at all

Ya powder coat. Thats what I meant. My bad.

Hmm, powder coating. Good idea. I had used caliper paint on my new calipers and it looks great and all, won't chip or whatever. BUT!, No matter how good the paint is, brake fluid will still eat it right off there. So there's another advantage to powder coating.
