Ready for a scary thought?

My car started overheating today...so it needs a new thermostat. Since Alex cut up his hand really bad over the weekend, he can't get dirt or grease on it, so you know what that means? I will be donning the mechanics gloves and replacing it myself (with some coaching) :D
But on a more serious note, I was toying with the idea of gathering information and making a website geared toward women on the basics of car mainainence (or for guys who don't know either) and how to spot problems and learn a few things to keep from getting ripped off by shops.
Scary thought or no?

Scary thought or no? Not a scary thought at all. Sounds like a brilliant idea to me! :D

I think its an excellent idea. Ive seen people (not always women) get jacked by a greedy shop when there was no need of it. Its a shame.
If you seriously decide to make a site like that KatWoman, I would be more than willing to help out with info and write-ups.
I could most likely host the site as well.

LOL Darkenss....actually the last time I had to have the t-stat replaced, I ended up doing it that time, because Alex had a back injury. Maybe if he quit hurting himself, my car would quit breaking :p

Rich , I would be delighted to get your input and help & anyone else's as well. The idea is just in the works for now, and Alex also thinks it would be awesome, too. I figured I would start by doing a list of things to check routinely...oil/fluid levels, tire pressure etc. then add more things as they come up :) I personally know the feeling of being ripped off too well....I was jipped out of nearly $4,000 by a shop I used to go to....they took advantage of my being naive at the time, the fact that I didn't have a father (deceased) or any man in my life at the time, and the fact that most women carry one or more crdedit cards.
By the way the thermostat change went well...for the most part. When I went to screw down the flange that contains the t-stat, the bolt broke :( but there was enough left sticking up so I could grab it with pliers and get it out of there. The fun part was running to 4 different places (including the dealer) to try to find one to replace it. On top of that I broke my ractchet (sp?) but it was a cheap one so no surprise there. Had I not run into the problem of the bolt breaking this would have been a 15-20 min job tops...and to think shops charge around $150 for this
