power steering problem

i just replaced the pressure hose on the power steering pump cause it had a hole in it. the pump is still making a "low fluid" sound. i dont think the pump is bad cause it is turning easy. i think there is a an air pocket in the line and i need to know if there is a way to bleed the system.

i think there is an easy way to do it....im not sure....i think by rapid left right steering wheel movements...chances are the leak may have allowed the pump to run dry for a while and caused damage

is there a way to check the pump other than smelling the fluid cause it still smells fine and not burnt at all?

Good suggestion Regalfriend. Here's the only procedure that I know of. Hopefully it works.

Refill and air bleeding procedure (rack n pinion system):

NOTE: To relieve steering tension when engine is off, you can raise and support the vehicle with front wheels off the ground. Use good quality power steering fluid. A small funnel with a long hose attached should be used to add fluid.

With ignition off and in steering unlock position, turn wheel to the left. Now add power steering fluid to the FULL COLD mark on the dipstick. Leave the cap off. Turns wheels side to side several times without hitting the steering stops. Check fluid level again and add to maintain level at FULL COLD mark.

Start the engine and let idle for approximately 5 minutes. Turn the wheels all the way to the left and right several times without hitting the stops. Turn off engine and check the fluid level again. Make sure that it is at or near the FULL HOT line. Replace cap.

Road test car and then check for leaks. Also you can re-check fluid level again just to verify.

Does it stop once it is warmed up? I have a 91 supra TUrbo in which I replaced EVERY part on the power steering system, And I do mean every part. Damn thing still whines for a few minutes especially when it is cold outside then stops. Well come to find out a MANY mechanics all told me that when it comes to power steering lines that you really have to use the dealer ones in that something to do with the valveing inside the lines? :dunno:

In regards to your tachometer shortening out, exactly how did you check for a bad ground? Did u have to pull out the dash?
