95 grand am se 2 engine problems

i bought a 95 grand am se it has a 3.2 Lit. engine and its a 4 cly. earlier this month. today my belt broke i replaced it and it was making a noise when i drove it around like a flipping noise when i stoped the car and looked again it was still on and i drove it back home it stopped but it looks like its going to come off i put the right size belt on and made sure all belt teeth i guess you would say was in the wheel grooves. but i also have this other problem that is going on before the belt broke . when i would speed up the engine starts making this noise like a tractor tring to speed up i guess you would say its not a thumping or ticking noise its like a roaring sound and if i go up to like 60 mph it gets a little louder but to much louder dose anyone know what is wrong and whats up with my belt

Sounds like the belt tensioner is toast. As for the noise, can you give any more information?
