Back Up Lamp Switch

wondering where the switch is located...'98 GMC Z71
neither lamp works and the other stuff on the fuse works so i guess i have a bad switch or a cut wire or an unpluged connector...

under the dash, above the brake pedal.

are you sure?..on another forum someone said it was on the transmission...i can check both places in the morning but i need all the help i can get....lol ...thanks again

It is on the transmission! The earlier style Chevrolets & GMC trucks it is on the steering column by the firewall inside the cab. First take a test light and see if your getting power to the circuit board for the tail lights. If not then check closer to the transmission. DO NOT JUST PULL ON THE PLUGS FOR THE RANGE SENSOR ON YOUR TRANSMISSION!!!!! It is glued in place you need to apply heat to soften the glue to pull the plugs out of it. A hair dryer or heat gun will do the job just fine. Trouble shooting 101 Start at the output if it is bad then move half way back to the transmission if you don't get the proper output then move further back from there. If you get good output then move halfway towards the lights. Best of luck let me know if this helps.

ok, will do !...thanks for the help, i haven't had time to get to it yet but i'll check at the lamps first...i thought it might be a quick way to check at the switch and not pull the lamps ass'y out but that's easy so i'll start there...
