Engine moves 1/8"....motor mounts?

Hi,

We have a 98 Olds Intrigue with the 3.8. We're having some 'clunk' sounds, and for some reason I tried to pull on the motor [from the firewall towards the radiator] to move it. My wife held the yardstick while I moved it, and we see it moves at least 1/8". It moves without having to pull very hard, so I know that there is something wrong.

I have been trying to locate all of the motor mounts. I checked the two square motor mounts that are above the radiator, neither is ripped. There is a solid rubber transaxle mount just in front of where the driver's side axle shaft that is totally solid and that looks fine

It seems that the "give" is coming from the right side of the motor [which on this transverse mounted motor, would be at the rear of the engine compartment on the passenger side of the car.

Does anyone have an idea of where I should look? I can't see anything that is obviously a motor mount, but will go back to checking.

Thanks for any help.

Hi, I found the 'hydraulic' mount beneath the crankshaft pulley and replaced it. There is still some wobble, so maybe that square mount above the radiator is worn, because I don't see anywhere else there is a motor mount. If anyone knows where another motor mount is, please let me know. thanks

It seems like there are a couple more mounts somewhere else, given you have the 3.8 engine I highly recommend you check out http://www.clubgp.com its for the Grand Prix, but underneath it all your car is exactly the same, just post exactly what you posted here, you wouldnt even have to tell them its an Intrigue, just tell them you have the NAed 3.8, or the L36, or the Series II NA..whichever acronym you decide is best, but they have a MUCH larger group of active members, and should be very helpful for you.

LittleHoov, this is at least the second time I noticed you that recommended an AF member to visit another automotive forum. This conduct violates AF policy.

There is plenty of expertise in this forum to answer the members question. If you do not believe that then I will be happy to make you a permanent patron of ClubGP. This will be your only and final warning.

Well I do apologize, I was just trying to direct himr to a place where I knew he could get his question answered. Because although I didnt know the answer to his question, I knew where he could find the answer with a little effort.

From now on, I will keep my recommendations non-public, but I have been in the same situation as many of the members here looking for help, and have come to this forum and had trouble getting the help I needed, even with all the expertise here as you say....so if you can't get it here, might as well go somewhere where you can.

Which reminds me, the member's question still hasnt been answered by anyone here.

I am adamant in certain situations, however, had you done your homework before posting you would see that the prior poster Morpheus P had a 2002 Intrigue with a 3.5L. This thread was in reference to an Intrigue with a Series II 3800. Further, it is not your responsibility to refer him to another forum if his question was not answered and break AF rules. Because you did not know the answer doesn't mean someone else would not weigh-in to help out given some reasonable time.

Morpheus P should not have resurrected an old post for his specific problem and request but started a new one for better visibility.

I will give you the benefit of the doubt on this one. If I see similar misconduct in the future, you will spend a short vacation in Banlandia.
