i keep seeing this on ebay everybody saying long block this and short block that, it gets confusing to me because i am wanting to do a swap but have no deal what they are speaking of.
i see bottom ends for a d16z6 all the time on there advertising the fact that they are long block bottoms...so whats the difference? compression or something.
b16a, b16a2.....whats the difference between these two
if i was to mini me myd15b7 would it have the same horsepower rating as a regular d16z6?
what would be a better choice getting a d16z6 and turbo charging it or getting a b18c and not doing anything to it, just putting it in.
i know cost plays alot in these questions, so i will give you as much knowledge as i think that i can give. i am looking to spend roughly about 5k on the car while in or when i get out of iraq. current mods that i am looking to do are body kit, seats, engine swap and paint. im trying to be as cost consious as possible but its not looking good for me. the d15b7 in my car has about had it. 150k miles and it still gets 32 mpg city but its having trouble starting now days. itll be parked the whole time i am in iraq so im not expecting it to fire up when i get home....acutally i dont expect the car to run. any help here is appreciated

Short Block hs no head. Long block does. There may be an oil pan on the long block as well. Depends on the company.
The b16a has a cable clutch, while the b16a2 is hydro. I think thats the only dif. You asked about the b16 motors but then asked which should you use.........the b18c or d16z6...... I have the b16a2 from a 2000 civic.......Seems to be a good motor. If your car ran when you left.......It will run when you get back.

With the b16a, you should look at the year of the engine. Too many people throw out engine codes that don't always fit. Some people refer to the jdm 88-91 b16a as the b16a1, some refer to the jdm '92-'95 b16a as the b16a2. It gets really confusing some times. The jdm engines don't have a number after the b16a, for any year (as far as I can recall). But also with the '88-'91 and '92+ b16as, the '92+ has 10hp more.
Choice depends on preference. With the turbo d16z6 you'll have to worry about engine management, and making power while still being reliable. With the b18c, it's just a drop in and go with the reliable stock engine. For hp though, the turbo'd z6 will usually have more hp (even turboing a stock block). Price also differs with many different things. You could buy a full turbo kit from a company and pay $2,000-3,000, or you could build your own for under $1,500. But the turbo'd D should be cheaper, parts wise, but then you'll need a good engine management and to get it tuned as well.
