OK here is whats going on. I just totaled my 97 Talon and have found a 91 VR4 sitting in a used car lot, have talked the guy down to about $4000. The car don't run but just had a engine put it in and old engine(including turbos)comes with the car.Car will crank over and engine sounds good from what i can hear from cranking, but the guy said the engine has a tick in it.I havent been able to run any test on the car yet(spark, fuel, the basics)but think I can get it going pretty easy.Is this car worth the 4000 dollars.Body and interior in perfect condition and ony 250 miles on new engine.

I wouldn't buy it without driving it or having a mechanic check it out. I simply wouldn't throw down $4,000 on some used car guy's word. Lifter tick is ok in our cars...it happens and is not dangerous, if that is what the guy is talking about, but still...you're gambling.

If I do decide to buy it then i will go over what I can and take my scanner and plug it into it,see what that has to say.I am ASE certified mechanic and evything appears ok on the car other than it wont start, figure it is either out of time, fuel pump is shot,or one of the many tings in the electrical is bad and not getting spark.I can get it running just wondering if the tick was normal and if the car would be worth the 4000.

well, if it's somthing simple like just a fuel pump or a bad wire than I'd say it's worth it. However the thing about these cars is that if they were mistreated in the past they will really show their wear later on. Also alot of times be ready to have an extra 1K in case somthing else breaks down

AARRRGGGHHH This sucks can't get teh loan for the car until it is driveable, anybody have any clues what would make it not start that i could test. The engine cranks fine and sometimes when you first try to start it it tries to fire up.All of my good tools got stolen and I'm stuck with basic hand toolss for now.I'm thinking fuel pump/filter,but still havent been able to run any test.Plus can either be used on the car as long as i spray after the turbos.Any help any test you could suggest to fix it would be greatly appriciated.Haven't drove the car yet just set in the seat and I love it,despartly need the help so i can actully drive it(and hopefully buy it).
