2001 2500 HD Knock

I know that alot of other people have been having this problem, but I wanted to know if anyone has found a solution.
Upon start up and for a few min after i will hear a knocking noise from my engine. Started with about 64000miles. Have used different grades of gas with no change. I have heard that it could be the fuel pump injector valve and that by installing a rubber washer under it will help. Also that GM says this sound is normal. My take is that an engine knocking is not normal or good for the engine. The final cause I have heard is that the connecting rod bolts have been failing so it looks like i will be taking my engine apart this week; but before I do I was hoping some good advice.
