I did a quick search but came up short. I am looking into adding a supercharger to my truck. I have compared the stats on their respective sites but would like a biased opinion.

Which SC should I go with for my truck?
A couple facts:
2000 Chevy Silverado
4.8L v8
short tube headers, cold air intake, Hypertech (soon to be Nelson) tune.

Magnacharger (http://magnacharger.com/gmtruckradix.htm) claims 63-125% power increase. I am aware it will be much closer to 63 if not just under...
Includes an innercooler.
Has a 3yr warranty.
Costs $5,150

Whipple (http://www.whipplesuperchargers.com/product.asp?ProdID=1136) claims up to 50% power increase, but does not give a low ball figure.
Innercooler at an extra charge.
Has a 1yr warranty
Costs $3,950


Does anyone here have experience with these SC's? If so, could you please give your opinion on their performance. I would apperciate any input.

I have no experence but I belive the magnacharger is a better deal with the difference of only $1200 and some some tax between the two I think its a no brainer your getting at least a 63 percent increase an innercooler and a not 2 but 3 year warrenty for 1200 more?????? I would get it I just dont got the money :smile:

For that type of money the STS Turbo will gain you MPG and the performance you are looking for and you can install it yourself in 4 - 6 hours. $4000, and it is not a parasitic gain.....

Well, I will definetely keep that inmind. However, both SC systems have a bypass built in to where they don't eat HP while not in use, it will kick in with WOT.....Magnacharger claims less than 1/3HP is used.

Also, the SC will not need a spool time, although I understand that the STS has a low spool time due to its design.

Seen a few STS turbos at the track and the spool time is very short. After talking with a few of each owners I want that STS for my toy as you can upgrade to an internal control and change your boost "At the flick of a switch." Turbos do not require a new special exhaust as the turbo creates backpressure so a stock exhaust is perfect.

if its a complete, reliable, problem free, bolt on kit your looking for and you tow, haul, and offroad, and want extra power right off idle through the rpm range the radix would be a great choice
if you want a balls to the wall race truck get a turbo or centrifical and put in a 3000 stall converter to eliminate the lag

i went with the magnacharger

no piggyback fmu, comes with computer flash programmer
comes with intercooler
comes with bigger injectors on the s/c unit
comes with high outoput fuel pump or booster pump depending on year of truck
has longer warrenty 3 year 36k, has optional 3 year 36k on powertrain if installed by ase technition
uses eaton blower, is used by several manufactures for oem applications
no lag
don't have to worry about turbo or piping under truck when off raod
don't have to worry about sucking water if you sink the ass end in water
don't have to worry about piping vibrating loose when offraoding
and the polished unit looks sick sitting on top of the engine

have 2k ecsb w/5.3, 6" lift, 315 tires, 4.56 gears
kit comes complete, good instructions, fairly easy install, took a weekend, has been problem free except for my install mistake, i put the throttle body gasket on backwards and had a high idle on start up, has no lag, gives boost under load not just wot but bypasses when caosting or cruising, works great when towing or hauling loads

don't know what else to say except i'm very happy with it, it was the most expensive kit and it was hard to part with 5G with other kits 1-2g less, especially after dumping 3g on a problem infested centrifical s/c kit, but after reading up on tubo's and s/c's on a few boards and already wasting money on a cheaper kit, i bit the bullet and bought it, and glad i did, it was worth every cent, i just wish i got the radix first instead of wasting money on the cheaper kit.

Well i work for a supercharger performance shop and hands down the turbo would be your best bet. As for the superchargers whipple makes a better supercharger than magnacharger, i know someones going to have some claims on this but il give some info on why. First off the benifits of the S/C over the T/C for one the turbo has the advantage of being able to raise the boost with a boost controler, only bad side to this is that you have to get a whole new exhaust, the turbo will have some lag but unless you put a massive one on there that motor should be able to spool it up with no problem. Also a big misunderstanding of turbo is that once that thing is spooled its not going to stop unless you let the car idle for a long time.

Now for the superchargers its pretty basic to get more boost just get a smaller pulley. We have a magna charger using a 2.8inch pulley on a vette first vette into the 10's with that supercharger. Another advantage over the turbo is that once you punch the throttle the power is there, but the S/C does have limits if you over spool the blower it will either break the gear setup or on roots style blowers it will be spinning so fast that the air will get traped in the screws and you will make some power but after that point the blower is useless. Pretty sure the gears will fuck up before the screws can do that. Now what the website says as power gains cant be set theres to many variables. Il explain for one what size intercooler, what style, what fuel upgrades, and internal mods to the motor, how its tuned and what not. So after that matter if you put them on the same motor with the same tune fuel system and etc, they could actually be exactly the same. But as for this we have seen the whipple put out more power per psi than the magnacharger. The best thing you can do is look at reviews, or look at actual cars not company cars im talking street cars that havent been treated to a full motor build or what not just to see ow they perform. some people have been claiming that our pulleys shred belts this only happens when the offset is not correct from the blower to the rest of the pulleys because of side load on the pulley, 9 times out of 10 its procharger and thats because they have shtty castings that arent always the same fore the brackets, great blowers though.
