Changing Rear Hub and Bearing Assembly

I have a what sounds like a bad rear wheel bearing on my drivers side of my 98 with disc brakes. I picked up a hub and bearing assy to do the job. Before I started, I looked at a Haynes manual for the procedure just to see if there was anything tricky. It looks straight forward however the manual says to discard both the grease cap and the retaining nut. The grease cap I can be careful with but what's the deal with the retaining nut? Is it not re-usable? Do I need to get a new one of these before tackling the job?

I have reused them before with no problem.

Where did you get the complete assy ?

I have always pressed a new bearing in the old hub.

I bought the assembly from Autozone. About $50. I'm off to change this right now.

I changed it out and it was very easy. Slip off the caliper and that's it. You need a 1 3/8 socket and must torque to 180lbs for anyone who searches this topic in the future.
