98 Bravada problem

Hello guys:

Well 3,000 miles into purchasing the 98 with 47,000 miles on it and I believe I have my first major issue.

While doing errands, made a 20 minute stop and came out to start the Bravada -- ran for about 10 seconds while in park and then died. After about 10 short key turns --- I didnt want to grind on it -- it finally started and ran -- accompanied by the 'service engine soon' light.

I didnt want to turn the engine off till I got home --- and when I did it started right up 2 or 3 times --- still with service engine light.

I will let it sit and see if it starts right up after an hour or so.

Any suggestions on what to do first ?

Auto Zone for code checks ?

I do have a good mechanic but thats always a hassle not to mention you never seem to get out of there without dropping at least $400 these days

Any and all help would be much appreciated as always

Update: 1 hour and 2 hours later - starts right up - still has service light

Thanks
Scott

Well -- went out --- a total of about 5 hours later and started the Bravada --- and the service engine soon light did not come on.

Went out and made a couple of stops -- and still no light.

Couldnt be that it fixed itself could it ????

I'm not sure of any that clear in a few starts. Does the Service Engine Soon light come on when all the dash lights come on when you first turn the keyswitch to the "on" position only? This is kind of a bulb check.

go to autozone and have them read your codes. your vehicle will store a "history code" and will tell you what the problem was. just because the light went out, does not mean that things are 100%. Get it checked?

ever done a tune up?

fuel filter?

ever checked battery voltage?

The normal lights do come on at startup including service engine

I have not had the problem since but will have it checked at auto zone as time permits --- thank you gentlemen
