Well the misfire could be internal engine, fuel or ignition related...you will need to do a little testing to find out which one..I would say start with the ignition system..you could swap plugs, wires and coils with another cylinder and see if the misfire moves.
As far as the knock sensor, probally a bad sensor or connection..I believe there was a TSB about those.

Is it a v6 or a v8? If it's a v8, the coils are on top of the valve covers... the little "black boxes" the plug wires plug into. If it's a v6, the coil is on the distributor cap. If it's a v6, your point for that cylinder may be bad, and a new cap may be in order.

I had the same problem about a year ago and found what the issue was in a few minutes. I pulled one of the wires off a plug and found that the metal spring inside the little boot detached itself from the plug wire causing a miss and occasionally touching and making the motor run very rough.

i tried switching the coils and the codes cleared on their own the pickup still runs rough. after i drove it for a while the s.e.s. light came back on but my cheap code reader will not read the code or codes. Should i just take it to someone with a real code reader? Thanks for all your help.

Take it to Autozone or Kragen or other autoparts strore, they should have a code reader that they can run for free to tell you the fault codes.
