Grrrr...... NO traction.

Man....getting sick of this now. I'm getting no traction in the wet with my Falken 502s cause they are crap, and majority of the time, spinning on first couple of gears, before I get any traction whatsoever. This is when the road is slightly wet, so you can imagine tonight was raining quite heaviliy, and basically had to drive like a slug

Thinking of options for new tyres when time comes to change. Been getting some quotes.

Currently looking at street legal semi - slicks. Falken Azenis cost $290 each for 215/45/17. Dunlop D1 were $340 for only 15's

Other options: ST115's, FK451's, Dunlop FM901's. Heard good things about the 901's but also heard dunlop tread wears real quick from my sis.

any recommendations, and what do you currently have on your car...and how does it handle? I'm looking more high end here. Don't care about price, as 17's will cost me a bit anyway. Expecting about $200 a tyre, regardless of what I get.

Have a few months left in these tyres though, but then it will give me some time to save.

I used to have A008Rs on my 1G and on one of my Celicas - awesome in the dry but not so good in the wet. Ok if you remember that. I also ran the 352s which were great (in a FWD pumping out 2.5 times more than stock) and were nice and grippy.

I'm going to look into what they have that is comperable as I wasn't too impressed with the Bridgestones recently - they used to be good, but the ones I had on my GL were crap.

the FK451's are $226 a tyre for 17's. Not much difference to the Azenis....about 65 bucks.

Perhaps the best option is to get just a couple of semi slicks for the front, and a couple of normal tyres for the back.

Like a set of 451's of ST115's for the back.

Any other suggestions?

Hmmmm...have been checking out the yoki website.

http://www.yokohamatire.com/04b1.html

AVID H4/V4 looks good....

Don't think the 45,000 tread warranty applies to here :(

Apparently Gordon Leven Tyres in Emu Plains - you can get cheapest prices for Yokis.

Looks like Bridgestone recommend the Grid II and Potenza RE711's for integras. Type R's come factory with Potenzas.

YOKO A539s $245 and FM901's $250.

Mixed reviews on the 539s that I've found online....Most say good in dry, and wet, however someone said crap in wet....hmmmmm....

Checking reviews on dunlops :p

as a forma teg owner, i have the solution!

Plus living in wellington nz (loads of rain) I totally know how u feel, mi teg could huss it up in 3rd gear on the m way, if i was feeling adventurous!!! Ok that was with crap 15 inch wheels and budget tyres, just before i sold her, but i thought that was great fun, cutting loose at 100km makes ur car seem reel fast!! Oh yeah, so this is wat i did to get traction,...
Sold it and bought a 1998 Mitsi 4WD!!!!

Solved all mi problems in the wet!!

Heres another, buy LSD!!

Heres another, spend more than 200 bucks, might be different there, but here 200 bucks gets u no where, try 400+ for mickey tyres,

COntinentals are the shit, or if u want cheaper, TOYO T1S, are fuking great in the wet eh!! mintie as!!

Yeah, my sister is Toyo T1s on her civic. They are pretty good. I'm thinking the dunlops now, from all the rave reviews from the PF guys.

hehehe...sell the integra...don't think so :p

but yeah, car tyres will spin to 3rd gear sometimes..and I'm hardly accelerating at all, its just not gripping.

Talk about rain, just started pissing down. yeah....it looks like about $250 for decent tyre.

v102 is the new name for what was called AVS sport before.
i'm fairly sure they still import them because dad only bought them last year.

i never implied that i used the yoko's anywhere else but on the street... i just said that they are the best tyre i have used on the street.

i'm thinking of a way to say this s-l-o-w-er... but i can't one (a way that is) :p

Which tyre size do you guys recommend?

I've currently got 205/40/17 on...however the dunlop fm901's actually come in:

205/40/17
215/40/17
215/45/17

apart from the width and height differences....what difference would it make to driving???

Setanta
05-17-2002, 06:44 AM
Yes, because you are going upwards in width, rim diameter AND aspect ratio.

There's a calculator and some interesting info on tyre ratios here:

http://www.powerdog.com/tiresize.cgi/

I punched in your stuff assuming we are talking V series tyres:

Spec | Sidewall Radius | Diameter | Circumference | Revs | Difference

205/40-17 | 3.2 in | 11.7 in | 23.5 in | 73.7 in | 860 / mile | 0.0%
215/40-17 | 3.4 in | 11.9 in | 23.8 in | 74.7 in | 848 / mile | 1.3%
215/45-17 | 3.8 in | 12.3 in | 24.6 in | 77.3 in | 819 / mile | 5.0%

Sorry I couldn't table it, but anyway, if you match headers to data you'll see there's a reasonable difference.

45s ruin your acceleration a tad as the wheels have to rotate further. I doubt it's much, but personally, I'd stick with your current aspect ratio.

oh spunky...the v102's end up costing $370 for 17's.....OUCH!!

ES100 coming out next month is $315 and will be 2nd from top of range....between A539s and v102...

still pretty pricey though.

Use what I use!!!..I used to use Potenza S02's!!..very good in the dry!..but wet wasn't as good as i thought!!

but then i use Potenza RE010's now...which are JDM Integra type-R tyres...they're the best i've ever used!..compared to S02 in the wet..it is excellent!!!..i love it!!..but they do rub out fast but hey..they're soft compound that is why it's sticky..

and since I'm from the bridgestone family..if u want something good and that lasts..G'Grid2

but then..Q..F901 is real good..my friend uses it and i test droive her civic and it's quiet and nicee..
before FM901 she used Kumho ecta 912 it was alright..lasted a while and is good for value..

the re711s are like an extra $100 bucks on top of most of the other brands, and its not good value for what your getting.....

plus I've got 17s so cost more too.

looks like dunlops....as top range yokies tooo pricey.
