body shop's paint

hi,

recently my new car was vandalized and it has a dent on the side. nothing horrible but still...new car. the insurance company sent me to a body shop to get it fixed and i'm ok with that. however they want to paint both the passenger side doors when only 5% of the doors have the dent.

normally i'd be ok with it but i don't know much about cars and paint and stuff. if the body shop paints both the doors, come 5 or 10 years from now, will the doors' paint match the rest of the car?

they should just be able to spot match if it is small enough. but your right whatever you do, the paint won't perfectly match the rest of the car. sorry your car got screwed up that sucks!

i went to the dealership and the hooked me up with their guy who fixes dents. he did a great job except he doesn't do paints. there are a few tiny scratches left over. one of them looks kinda bad for a new car. if it was used or old, i probably wouldn't care. but right now my main concern is that if i leave it alone, i don't want it to rust. the dent guy told me not to use touch-up paint because then it would end up looking worse. he also advised me to look into someone who can airbrush it. what's airbrushing? and will that "cure" the line? the scratches are small but after removing the dent, there was a line of paint separation which is my main concern.

if the body shop uses any good quality paint it will last the life of the car. the scratches won't be fixed, just colored. Airbrushing is like spray painting only a lot, lot better. It uses an air hose for the pressure and it uses actual automotive paint. The only problem with airbrushing is that you can't use clearcoat in them, it's to thick. My suggestion, get it fixed buy the shop, they'll mud in the scratches, make them go away, and paint the doors. hey, it's not like your going to have tape lines. IMO that's the best way to go.
