Not enough oil on startup?

I've got a 94 civic ex, and when I go outside to start it in the morning, the car sounds like it's almost knocking, but it goes away after a second or two, and doesn't come back all day. I've seen similar problems on non-hondas where if you used crappy oil/filters they would knock because of lack of oil on startup. But I'm using fram oil filters and valvoline or casterol oil. Anyone have any thoughts, or have a similar problem? I don't want to let this keep happening, but at the same time I don't want to break my bank everytime I need to change oil by putting $6 a quart oil in it.

if your engine is knocking due to low or no oil, your engine will be gone by the time that happens.

if your uncertain about oil levels, just make sure oil level are within specs on the dip stick.

your knocking description is also very vague. knocking can be caused by many things.

everyone i know that has a honda has this happen...maybe all ours are junk?... i think its the fact that while the motor sits, the oil drips down the the oil pan and theres none to lube the cam for the first few sec on start-up... it does stop after about a min or so, mine does... i just went and bought a quart of lucas oil stabilizer.... 6$... all you do is replace 1 quart of regular oil with the stabilizer. it will make your oil all gooey and it tends to stay on the upper motor parts longer.

lol, no one I know has a honda that does that, including me.

well.... i think its cause we run the shit out of ours... its like theres no "normal driving".. all it does is..starter tick tick tick... fine... its like 3 sec and thats it... the oil stabilizer helps

use thinner viscosity oil 5w30 is the best

Careful with the stabilizers--they thicken your oil, causing MORE friction at startup. Change your oil, use a thinner viscosity.

and you should always let the car warm up before driving it hard.
