Battery light

The battery light came on. I thought I lucked out when the battery tested bad. The next day, after installing a new battery, the battery light came back on, this time along with the ABS light. The battery still registers 12 volts on a handheld voltmeter.

Are there any other possibilities besides an alternator? Where are the leads to test the alternator?
