Misfires and more...

I bought my LS this past June. All was well until I started noticing some misfires. So I replaced all the plugs. In doing so found a few cylinders where the plugs were COVERED in oil.

QUESTION 1:

Anyone experienced anything like this? Is the LS known for bad valve stem seals? Or is there another problem I should know about?

Well despite the new plugs the misfires continue. I took it to a trusted mechanic today and was informed that there is a moisture problem with the wires leading to the coil packs. I was told to replace the two coil packs on the misfiring cylinders. He also informed me of a notice out on the LS regarding a moisture problem where the wires leading to the coil packs have problems leading to misfiring. Apparently there is a solution for this problem.

QUESTION 2:

Anyone ever dealt with this? Replacing the coil packs wouldn't be that hard but if there is some other procedure needed I'm concerned.

QUESTION 3:

If you have dealt with or heard of this, did it solve the problem of the misfires??

I hope someone out there can help.

If the plugs were covered in oil it sounds like the valve cover gasket needs replacing. This is a common problem on the early year LS. That can cause the coil on plugs to fail. Replacing the valve cover gaskets can be done with simple tools but it is not a fast and easy job. Of course you can replace the COPs easy enough.
