This for only using an existing functioning FOB.
Bought two FOB's (remote keyless entry transmitters) via ebay. The part numbers did not match but the FCC ID did match.
I searched a lot around the web for instructions on how to program the new FOBs. Found three methods - one is what is in my 97 T&C LXi manual and the other was the grounding of the RKEU. The manual instrucitons were what everyone was copying on the web about using a existing FOB. The second instrucitons were for the grouding of the RKEU - which was something I did not want to do unless I had a lot clearer directions. My third option was to go pay the $55 at the dealer.
The instuction on using the FOB that is working did not work for me.
So I went to the local library to access Alldata (Automitive technical reference online). The local library has a subscription. Looked it up there and got my answer in 5 minutes. The manual and all the people that copied the manual were right but they forgot one important piece of information. So here is all the instrucitons:
1. Get in vehicle - close door. Use working FOB(remote) to UNLOCK all doors - press UNLOCK twice. It will also disarm the Vehicle Theft Security System (if you have one).
2. Insert key in ignition and turn to RUN position without starting the engine.
3. Using the FOB that works, press and hold the UNLOCK button down and count to 5 (say it out loud: 1-one thousand, 2-one thousand, 3-one thousand, 4-one thousand, 5-one thousand)
(Here's what they all left out)
4. While still holding the UNLOCK buttton down and before your count gets to 10-one thousand press and release the PANIC button and the UNLOCK button. You should hear a single chime or bing. That sounds means the Remote Keyless Entry Unit is set to receive the new vechilce access codes. I never heard the chime/bing I guess I was holding the buttons past 10 seconds.
5. Within 30 seconds of the chime/bing you must press any button on all of the FOB's including the one used to start this process. Basically you are clearing the memory of the RKEU (Remote Keyless Entry unit). You will hear a chime/bing after pressing a key on each FOB - this chime/bing signals that the code has been programmed into the Remote Keyless Entry Unit.
6. After the 30 seconds you will hear a chime/bing that means that you can no longer program any more FOBs. Or you could just turn the key to the OFF position.
Your done!! :)
7. Just a note that you will have to reprogram the first two FOBs for the Power Seat memory. The first two FOBs reprogrammed are the ones that will operate the memory seat and mirror system.
