Recommend a spot for a subwoofer please.

I'm having a "Bazooka" tube style subwoofer installed in my 99 Rodeo today to give my stereo a much needed kick in the pants. It will be mounted in the cargo area behind the rear seat.
Can someone recommend the best way to mount this thing? Should it be put in laterally right up against the back of the seat? Should I put have it put in longitudinally maybe towards the wheel wells? Would the sound be affected one way or the other.
I want a spot that sounds good but won't be in the way (and have to be removed) every time I need to haul something with the back seat folded down.
Thanks. If I can figure this out I'll include a photo of the speaker.

good luck with that.
it will always be in the way, unless you try mounting it to the tailgate.
i'm in the process of designing a box that fits on the right side (passenger) cargo "pod" in a 99 passport, with minimal intrusion. only works with small box subs, but at lest it minght work. desing is a hassle. cardboard and duct tape make up most of the process. then it's a fiber glass issue. i just wish i had the ability to get the box covered in the same plastic that makes up the interior. looks like vinyl will be the best idea for that part.
i'll post photos once i get it to where i'm not embarrassed of it.
if anyone has any better ideas, let me know.
my idea of this came from a post found in the forums that pointed to an ebay auction of a guy who made something like it.

you could try mounting the sub on the wheel well. this way it dosn't use up much space and is off the floor.
some good straps for this can be found at a hardware store or car parts store. good luck

I have a '99 LSE Rodeo. I had an amp and subwoofer put in by Circuit City in 2000. Its pretty big, takes up about a third of the cargo area, but its not bolted in, I take it out as needed. Being single it never a problem space wise when I travel and greatly improved the sound quality.
You're right about one thing, the sound system definately needs a boost.

I just built a fiberglass subbox that's contored to the left side of the trunk. Its 14" tall, 6" wide and about 24" long. When i clean out my trunk, I'll take pics and post it.

Thanks for the tips. They wound up mounting it up against the driver side wheel well. Yes, it's bulky and in the way, but it is very easy to remove if the cargo space is needed.
Most importantly, it sounds REALLY good! I highly recommend installing one of these (or any other sub) if you are not happy with the sound of your current system. The difference is amazing. Now I turn the bass all the way down and run it exclusively through the sub. With the decreased low range work, the 4 speakers sound much better. Now I can play something loud with no distortion at all. And the bazooka sub has a dial to increase or decrease the bass independent of the radio. At 36 I'm a bit old for the window rattling bass, so I just turn it up just enough to add some nice low range response. Really, I'm shocked at how much better the system sounds now.
I wish I had heard about that Isuzu sub first though. That looks terrific. I had no idea they had one.
Anyhow, thanks again. I'll post a pic shortly.

You can get it here http://isuzupartspeople.com
Looks like you can only get it for 2002 and newer, but I don't know why since there is essentially no difference in 98 and newer Rodeos ????

You can get a better sounding sub for less if you make it. IT all depends on what you want. My sub( JL Audio 12W3v2) and fiberglass box cost around $300 and I have a sub that can be louder, but more importantly, has a better sound.

I dont own a Rodeo, but my friend, and also my girlfriend have one. In one of them we are planning a Kicker L5 15" with 700 watts in a 4ft box. :grinno: yeah we are crazy kids. I just got done building my ported box for an 1100 watt audiobahn.

1.5 cu ft fiberglass Subbox in 98 Rodeo. For those wondering why I didnt make it longer and narrower, its because the JL 12W6v2 is 6.56" deep and the back of it is hitting some counturs. Overall approximate dimensions are 24"x8"x14"(LxWxH)

Front face and bottom panel is mdf, everything else is FG. The back is contured to the plastic panels of the car. My jack is in the green toolbag along w/ some basic tools and jumper cables for those of you wondering. The amp is mounted on the seat but covered by that toolbag.

Hey I'm finishing up my Subwoofer box in the next day or two.
I have a Rodeo Sport with little cargo room.
I'm using an Infinity Kappa Perfect 10.1D in a vented 1cu.ft. box.
The box I designed fits on the driver side and protudes 10" into the cargo
area. It's lifted 3" off the floor so the sunroof glass and soft windows
can still be stowed on the floor. I'm bolting it to the body in order to
transfer more "thump" into the car.
If ya'll are interested I can post/ send images. I'm planning to do
a write-up for planetisuzoo.com when I'm done.
This a test-fit photo:
https://mywebspace.wisc.edu/rendres/web/3.jpg
This is the box freshly attached to the body:
https://mywebspace.wisc.edu/rendres/web/1.jpg
And this is the final installation:
https://mywebspace.wisc.edu/rendres/web/2.jpg
It's slightly elevated in order to accomodate the glass/ side panels.
350w RMS to 700w Peak tuned to 35Hz....O-H Y-E-A-H !!!!
Metallica & Tiesto & Notorious BIG never sounded better!
Cheers,
johann schuster
