87 B 2200 Timing problem cured

:grinno: I had asked on here about my timing marks but didnt get any luck the timing marks on my 87 b2200 there is a 10 then some lines to a T for tdc well each mark on mine is 2 degrees my timing setting from the factory on the sticker is 6 degrees btdc so it was 2 marks over from 10 and everyone had told me to use the #1 MARK ON MY TIMING CAM_OR BELT PULLEY that was wrong on my vehicle the gear was removed and with the cam dowel at tdc I set the#3 mark at the top the guy at the machine shop told me my gear had been run before in the number #3 HOLE so I tried it and my truck runs like a sewing machine.hope this helps someone else.

No, they where right. When you do your timing you make sure number 1 piston is at TDC which also means that the mark on the harmonic balancer should line up with the T on the cover. The cam sprocket should be installed on number 1 and the arrow on the top of the distributor housing should line up with the arrow on number 1.

If the cam sprocket is installed on 3 you did the right thing by lining it up to the arrow for #3, the only difference is that your cam is slightly advanced so your truck will have a little more low end torque.

O K Thanks for the heads up I will check it with a Timing Light{when I get one} and reset it to #1 and T.
