82 rab diesel long pulley alternator problems

I'm still trying to figure out the problem. I have an alternator only kicking out 11.5 volts. I may try to replace the brushes and regulator but I cannot seem to order a correct remanufactured unit. the shafts are too short. Does the 30mm extended pulley adapter I've seen for sale fix this situation? I have an 82 pickup diesel rabbit. I've seen longer shafts on gas alternators and wonder if this vehicle was changed a bit. No a/c. Pictures are provided to help:

Can anybody put up a pic or check what their shaft pieces are if you've got a bench piece?

I should have 2 1/2 from the housing to the middle of the pulley. Instead I have 2 1/4. I suppose if I order a new alternator locally, I may end up with the correct setup but the ones that were incorrect that showed up came with no fans or pulleys or hardware.

More pictures to illustrate, the spacer is just under 1 1/4 inches.
I hope somebody has one to compare. There doesn't look like there is room for an extra 1/4 of spacer. Lock washer would have to go to get the nut on then. I'm assuming I may just have a gas alternator.

I'm not sure of the gas vs. Diesel length. Can you find someone who can rebuild your unit? Most of the regulator/brush units were the same, fairly available & easy to replace.

The VW dealership doesn't handle old stuff and pointed to a parts shop that had an alternator delivered within the hour. A beautiful reman by Bosch that matched perfectly. Pulley length choice seemed to be either 57mm or 67mm (about 2 1/4 or 2 3/4)when the parts guy was quizzing me. My 2 1/4 was just fine, I just had to find the right place to find what I needed.
