Gas mileage

With the prices of gas going up so high. I'm in process of buying a 4 cylinder beater to get to work and back. Simple reason of saving money. I drive about 60 miles round trip to work and back at least 5 days a week. My 14 miles a gallon is costing me $60- $ 70 A WEEK. Thank god it's 90% freeway or it would be worse.
I have a 97 silverado 350ci. About 14 miles per gallon.
Just wondering what everyone is else getting for mileage?

I think a lot of the gas mileage for the pickups has to do not only with the engine but the rear end. My 1996 C3500 5.7 L only gets about 12 mpg because it has the 4.10 rear end. Great for towing, but gas mileage is less than optimum. I'm envious of your 14 mpg!

My 95 3/4 ton 4x4 Suburban gets 11.5 with the 454. I just bought a 2000 Blazer, like an S10 but they don't call it that anymore. I get 18 mpg out of it's 4.3. It's a 50% increase in milage, so like today when I filled the Blazer it cost $38.00, but it would have cost $19.00 more in the 'burb -- money in the bank. The only fixed cost is insurance, which is about $250/6 mo, which I have to make up for in fuel savings. Can do easy, I drive over 20K miles per year.

if you have the means, the best way do do it is keep the truck in the garage for the weekend crusing (that is, if its an old restoration or something) and drive a honda accord with a 5 speed manual from the early nineties. dont get an automatic, theyre the most worthless trannies on the planet. In stop and go traffic with the manual, you should get at the very least 35 miles a gallon, and on the highway probly at least 40.
lol or get a 3-banger ford festiva or geo metro with a manual and get like 45 mpg in the city lmao!!! just dont get in a wreck with anything bigger than a poodle or youll be in the hospital for weeks lol
