Hey everbody, I was considering altering/removing the governor speed on my grand am from 105. I tried researching it but came up with absolutely nothing, thanks in advance to anyone who helps.

there are no laws requiring the governor, manufacturers put them there for safety reasons because the car isn't built to go any faster without the possibility of a catastrophic and dangerous part or tire failure.

I mostly agree, its the factory tire speed rating that is the primary issue.
As for the design of the car....its more the legal liablilty that the manufacturer wishes to limit. In the litigation-happy US, manufacturers have been sued for all kinds of safety related issues. Just as someone was awarded $10 million because their MacDonalds coffee was too hot, so can auto makes get sued because they permitted their cars to go too fast. It is up to the discretion of the legal advisors to decide where the limit should be at, so Corvettes are permitted to go faster than the Grand am.
