I have to change the alternator on a 98 malibu and have a question: How to adjust the tension on the belt connecting the alternator?

Thank you!

You place the square end of a ratchet into the square hole on the tensioner (right below the screw bolting the tensioneron the car). Then place something for force (like the round hole of a very large crescent wrench ) in for support and twist it towards the firewall. That should release enopugh tension to take off the belt.
