Best sound quality speakers?

All right now, I really want to know, what you think are the best sounding 6.5" component speakers. I'm going to buy some soon and I want to choose the right brand for sound quality.

At this point, based on everything I've heard, I've been looking at CDT. I've also been considering Resonant Engineering.. how would you compare those two brands?

How about Focal?

How does Boston Acoustics compare to all of these? And is there any other brand that I should be considering?

Thanks.

what price range?

Might want to take a look at Rainbow, DLS, Morel, etc. Also, a DIY setup might be a nice choice, but if you go that route it's almost a necessity that you go active in the process (which is never a bad thing, especially in a SQ setup, it just means you need an active crossover and another amp).

I'm definately not a big fan of DLS. CDT is great. Their HD-62 set sounds fantastic (better then my Kodas from Adire). As sr20 said a price range is a big determination in a reccomendation. You can also IM djdilliodon on AIM. He's a dealer for a lot of good brands and can help you out a lot.

I'm not totally rich.. I guess I want to know who makes the best sounding 6.5" components up to about $300 max.

EDIT: woofersetc.com has CDT HD62s on sale for $404. I'm tempted by that.

Funny, I've heard the exact opposite from just about everybody, and DLS speakers are used in the SQ world champion's vehicle btw (just in case you didn't know). Supposedly they're dark, like Morel, very detailed and "natural" sounding.

Hmm.....well I have Kodas in IB, which to me (since SQ is subjective) sound much better then my friend's DLS UR6 component set (Both in IB and in Kicks). He didn't like the way they sounded either so he sold those and got an HD-62 component set and it's the best component set i've heard except for a few active sets and the Eurosports I heard.

I haven't heard much about the UR series components, but the next one up (Iridiums) are regarded as some of the best SQ speakers money can buy, they're the ones being used in Scott Buwalda's SQ Altima. I think the 2-way set can be had for around $450 if I remember correctly, Buwalda uses the 3-way set which is somewhere around $550-600 I think.

I haven't heard the CDTs (friend has the cl-62, never heard the hd-62), but going off of the opinions of everyone I've heard, they all regard the kodas as far superior to the hd-62. It's hard to compare objectively though, since nobody is truly objective, and CDT doesn't post the T/S parameters for their components.

The only edge that the kodas have to the hd-62's IMO is midbass ouput. The HD-62's sound better and are smoother sounding.

Well I've never listened to them so I can't say for sure, but like I said above I've heard the opposite to be true. Maybe your vehicle just has some nasty acoustics that his doesn't have...

It realy doesn't. I've had other speakers that have sounded good. And the Kodas sound good, just not as good as the HD-62's. Did the testing individual test them both in the same vehicle both under the same conditions?

From what I understand, yes, just a straight drop-in replacement, similar to when I swapped out my Focals for the Kodas.

Hey sr i wanted to ask you somethin, Don recommended the ef-61 cfi-24's because I need some comp. that can keep up with the sx 18. 225 shipped is what he offered, what you think?

That's not a bad price, they wouldn't be able to keep up with the sx 18 though, you'd need a pair of high excursion 8's at least to do that. You could always attenuate the sx though...

It's hard to say how they would perform, I really wish CDT gave out the specs on their speakers but they don't give you crap to go on.

well i def. dont have the skills to make custom door pods for 8's, so i dont think thats a possibility. You think the 18 will drown the EF's that much? i mean, i know the 18 will get stupid loud.....i could always seal it?

or you could just turn it down....:)
