A 2000 Alero with 74000 miles on it. Previous owner was the only owner, she said she never had a problem with it. No accidents. Road very nice sounded good. All parts worked. Air, windows, horn, cigarette burner, cruise, cdplayer, radio all worked.
i want a car that will go for a few hundred thousand miles like a honda. Is this a car that will do it?
i need feedback now, i have to make the decision today or the car is gone

If you're expecting the car to go 200K, theis one can do it. If you're expecting the car to go 200K miles with out problems, then you need to get a Honda.
I have a 2002 Alero with the 3.4L V6 and it has a very strong powertrain. Although I'm selling it now, I had planned to keep the car until the wheels fell off it, so I do have confidence in it. Don't expect, however, for the car to be problem free. If you keep the car for another 7 years or so, you'll probably run into a Passlock security isssue, a bad wheel bearing or two, and perhaps a bad fuel pump. GM says to change the transmission fluid every 50K along with a new filter, but I change mine every 30K with a new filter just to be safe. Also, don't follow the oil life monitor if this Alero has one. Change the oil and filter everhy 3-5K miles.
I think as long as you take good care of it and don't expect Honda quality out of it, you'll be happy. That's not to say its quality is that of a Yugo, but its just not a Honda...
By the way, what engine does this car have? What color? How much?

It's white, for $4500. i cannot remember what engine it has now. It's a 4 cylinder though, i'm pretty sure. It felt like it when i drove it.
What's this passlock security issue, and is it expensive to fix?
Would you recomend getting a honda with about 100 thousand miles on it and a little older as apposed to getting the Alero, if i take good car of it? The reason it's so cheap is my uncle works at the dealership. They ran a buch of tests on it and nothing bad came up.
i have to call him in the next hour to let him know what i'm going to to, they're going to sell to a smaller dealership if i don't buy it.
