Dying Out

I just recently put glasspacks on my 97 bird and i would have to say about a week and a half later it started dying out a lot...its not safe to drive it. I took to my uncle and he said it could be because my car has so many miles on it that the oxygen sensors cant handle it... yet at the same time my fuel pump is pumping at 29 psi....and my check engine light isnt on or anything but it still dies. just wondering if anybody has any ideas of what the problem is thanks

New mufflers have nothing to do with it. Even though your CEL is not on, pull the codes.

i thought we said car should have 40 psi in previous post for this car???????

If all you have is 29 PSI at the rail, I'd be willing to bet that the fuel pressure regulator has failed, thus not allowing it to hold the 40 or so psi that it needs. The exact same thing happened to me on my old '85 Thunderbird, kept dying out on me until I replaced the fuel pressure regulator.

like i said in last thread that was started he could unhook the vacuum line from the regulator and the pressure should jump up if the regulator is working if the pressure jumps up but is still low reading the lines are restricted(as in kinked line or clogged filter) or the pump is bad.. if unhooking vacuum line and pressure does not change or fuel is leaking at vacuum port the regulator is bad(btw a bad fuel regulaotr can,but not always, set a code and turn on mil

If you removed you catalytic converters or your O2 sensor that could be what it is. Starting in '95 all vehicles in the U.S. had to begin to actually use the O2 sensors to make them more efficient and not put out so much "deadly" exhaust fumes that were bad for the enviroment. Anyways, starting in '95 the O2 sensors really told the engine what the fuel to air ratio should be. If you remove the O2 sensors or the catalytic converters the engine will go crazy. That may be the problem. You should probably take it to a dealership and have them look at it.

Thanks for the help but it was actually the crank sensor cuz the people who put a new one in tied the wires to the wrong place and it was all messed up...but thanks and bird u know u like it
