I was browsing ebay when i came across a 05 taurus! The oil cap says to use 5w-20! In comparison with old models of same engine why the difference?

Off topic:
Also i wanted to let you all know that my trans went out. I have say the problem is the forward clutch pin snaped. I have reverse but no foward gears. It seems the design of the AX4s is problem matic. Also the shifting pattern is annoying with the pauses after first gear. Has any one driven a vulcan with AX4s and AX4n?? If so does the 4n do a much better job over the 4s?

in gen 3 they told you to use 5W-20 in the Taurus in order for it to get better fuel mileage as fuel the 5W-20 is less viscous, it loads the oil pump less to pump it. However, you can use 5W-30 and it will work perfectly fine.

they recommend 5w 20 in order to meet fuel economy standards set by the government as 5w 20 will get you the best fuel economy. however there is a trade off. engine longevity. because 5w 20 produces a thinner film of oil between moving parts as compared to say 10w 30.but manufacturers dont care if your new vehicles engine lasts you over 100,000 miles.i personally wouldnt put or recommend 5w 20 in anything.not even a new car but the decision is ultimately up to the owner.i use and recommend to all my friends and family to use full synthetic 5w50 along with a quality filter that will filter down to 10 microns.no that government minimum standard of 50 microns doesnt cut it as a great percentage of engine wear is caused by particles that are 10 - 20 microns.if you dont believe me you can check out the motor oil bible as it is an interesting and informative read.

Another couple things different you might notice on the '05, no sway bars and adjustable pedals are gone.
