WIP-Celica SS-II with custom bodykit

Originally started this one in April 04 - it's the venerable Tamiya kit from 1993 moulded in red plastic :uhoh: (but at least it's got an engine).
I never got round to making the second side skirts & then lost interest in it. Stylewise the bodykit is roughly based on the one on the Garage Mak Silvia & the left over plastic front/rear bumpers from the Fujimi kit were used as a starting point - the rest is made up of Tamiya Epoxy putty & plastic card :

http://members.aol.com/jonesandy898/celica1.jpg
After final shaping and the colour coat :
http://members.aol.com/jonesandy898/celica3.jpg
http://members.aol.com/jonesandy898/celica4.jpg
The hood, stock wing and mirrors are missing as despite liberal coats of grey then white primer the red plastic still bled through (damn you Mr Tamiya!) so I need to do them again - if all else fails I could use c/f decal on the hood but I'd prefer not to as I think it'll break up the lines too much.
Thanks for looking.

It looks really nices, i liked the first set of rims thou, they look more racy. also, if you don't mind, in my opinion, with the actual look of the bodykit, the spoiler you have wont match so much with it, you could use insteal a lower profile wing, like this one from the bomex supra
http://www.bomexaero.com/part/supra_80/uad149.htm

Sorry I didn't make it very clear in the original post but I plan on using the stock wing which is lower than the Supra one in the 1st 2 pics.

Just a quick update - I decided to add a pearl to the clear lacquer although you probably can't tell from the picture - I'll probably use these wheels which are the rims from the Aoshima Madzaspeed RX7 with Pegasus sleeves & SAS tyres. Plan to paint the centres gunmetal they're just in grey primer at the moment - sorry the pics a bit dark.

I'm really frustrated with this one at the moment :banghead:
After polishing out the paint there's some bleed through of the red plastic on the hood, rear pillar & back panel. After spending the time
& effort shaping the bodykit I don't feel I can live with the bleed through so it's going to have to spend some time in brake fluid !.
(should've known better than to try & paint it white but thought it showed of the bodykit nicely).
I'll keep you posted.
Cheers

Andy, you work on the bodykit fittings did turned out awesome, dont get too upset on the paint problem, its a part of modelling, you know that :banghead: ..... ;)
I agree on the white being a great color for this bodykit, dont give up on it yet, cant wait for the afterbath!

After a week soaking in brake fluid it's looking a bit sorry for itself but on the plus side it's removed about 5 differnet layers of paint & it gives you some idea how the bodykit was built up.
http://members.aol.com/jonesandy898/celica9.jpg
http://members.aol.com/jonesandy898/celica10.jpg
On the downside I've given it a coat of primer and it looks as though I've got some more sanding & putty work to do to as I used cellulose stopper for small imperfections and the brake fluid appears to have dissolved it - there's also a crack appeared in the rear bumper which'll need fixing.Once the bodyworks taken care of I'm going to go with a solid red to be on the safe side.

Hi David
I'm still sort of working on it between other things - it's currently back in primer but there's a few areas that I'm not happy with which need filling again (same goes for the 06 Mustang). Once that's sorted out I just need a decent weekend weatherwise to gett some paint on them both(once I decide on colours !).
Thanks for your interest

Finally got round to spraying this for the second time. In view of the problems with the red plastic bleeding through I intended to paint it red but as the the Eleanor mustang is going to be that colour decided to use Vauxhall Carib Blue metallic instead.
I think I'll go with black rims for a change - the ones pictured are luxy type 4's with trim rings. Sorry the picture's not very good (8.30 pm here) - the colour is a lot brighter under natural light.
I'll try and clearcoat it tomorrow and post better pics.

The color is awesome and great job on the bodywork, it's awesome to see it raw then painted. Real smooth work. The rims have a little too much offset for a Celica, though, don't they?

Thanks Willimo
The lips are from the HKS D1 Silvia kit with Luxy Type 3 rims and need sanding down a bit -alternatively I may go with the Mazdaspeed centres & Pegasus sleeves that I thought of using originally.
I'll have a play around until I find a combination that looks best.

Catching up on the thread I got to the pic after the bath and started thinking about color for this car. Then I scrolled and saw the next pic (with your new color) and was impressed. I really do like the idea of black wheels also. I think that kind of a blue hue can be tough to pair with wheels. Maybe something with some gunmetal as apposed to black would sex me up even more, its hard to say. I guess I'd have to see it to come to a conclusion, Im a visual type 'a guy. :naughty:

I'm sure whatever you choose will look spot on. Brilliantly brought together Andy. I have to find this kit, I don't have one and Im a fool for engine detail. Speaking of engine detail... :)

I love that blue. What color have you decided to have the interior be? I would think a nice black with yellow or silver accents would look awesome with that exterior color.
