LED Interiors - Help?

i got my self some interior LED's and i am planning on putting them under the dash above the pedals, and same spot for the passenger side. And since i would rather not have the Little lights that were there allready be on, shinning white on top of the blue, i figured id just: remove the light, snip the wires and wire them to the LED's. With my "Novice" knowledge of cars, and Fairly decent knowlegde of wirring, I figured this wouldnt be a problem. A friend from work, big into tuning cars, and Lighting Effects gave me the idea. This way when I opend the doors the lights would come on, and in my grand am there is a switch to turn on the dome (i have LED's in there to), and the under dash lights. So i figured this would only make things better, by saving me lots of wirring time, and then they'd be on when I open the doors, and i would have a switch and everything. BUT, when i removed the lights and tried to wire the LED's to the wires for the under dash light, The LED's never came on. (I swapped the wires incase i had + to - and viseversa, and i also tested the LED's on the battery before doing anything to make sure they worked, so Everything is wired fine, and works.) But no LED's. When i gave up for the night i relized my doom, and passenegr side lights where out to. But i dont remeber if they went out right when i snipped and removed the stock underdash lights. I thought they where on, but i really am not sure, and i did have to pull at the wires a little to get it down far enough to get the wires together, but i dont think i pulled hard enough to harm anything.


So First, Is it possible to wire the 12v LED's to these wires, and haeve everything work properly? or should i have the lights put back in, then have to do all the wirring with a switch and what not.

Second, By snipping that light, is that what cut the power to the doom and passenger side lights, or is there somethign else wrogn there besides the removed light.

Third, Should i just give up adn haev it doen by a "profesional" (id rather nto do this, one money, 2, id like the experience of doing it myself.)

So pelase, if anybody hass tried this, and has run into the same problem, OR, found a way to do it, and made it work like i want, Please let me know. Any suggestions on what to do would eb nice to. Thanks.

I have also only tried it out on the driver side, and the + wire was very hard to get a full wire, so it may not actualy be wired allt hat flawlessly, if even good enough. And i havnt messed with it beyond this yet, so i cant mess it up worse.

I dont see why it wouldnt work...but I would test the wires u cut to see if u r getting power to them now.

The three lights might be wired together in a loop...if you cut it in one place, you have opened the circuit and none of them get power.

Try rewiring the old lights back in and see what happens. The LEDs you are using should have a resistor to cut the voltage on them....the ones you buy at the local auto parts store will already have them. If you hook up a LED without a resistor, it will instantly burn out.
