No upshift light in 1/2 gear

My 93, 3.2L V6 with 5 speed man. trans. doesn't show the upshift light in first or second gear. Works fine in third or fourth. I think there are two switches on the trans, one for 1/2 and one for 3/4. Does anyone know where these switches are located and which one is which? A wiring diagram? My chilton's manual doesn't have anything on these. It doesn't even show them in the wiring diagram. I called my local Izusu dealer to see if they had wiring diagram for the trans. and they said they didn't.

I test drove a 5-speed and found the U/S light to be very irritating - if the tranny is working fine in all gears, I wouldn't worry about the light.

BUT - I don't know a single thing about the manuals in these trucks, and I don't know if that's a sign of maybe your clutch slipping??

Do you really need a light to tell you when to shift? :eek7:

I don't need the light to drive. I need it so the emissions tester knows when to shift.

If your emissions tester doesn't know when to shift, I wouldnt let him touch the car

the light not working in 1st or 2nd beats the pants off of it being on all the time in 5th. When other people drive my car I have to tell them "There are only 5 gears. Only 5. Try to make that shift into 6th and I'll kill you." I've almost done that a couple times myself. Luckily the furthest I've made it before I realized my mistake was the neutral position.

It's for the State of Illinois emission testing. It could be anyone there that day. These guys aren't the best at driving sticks. At least if the upshift light is working, they'll know when it's best to shift.

LOL. I went ahead and took out my gauge pod, and removed the U/S light. problem solved!
