Evaporative Emission Control System Vent Control Circuit Malfunction code po446
I have a 1997 explorer with 118 K on it trying to get it inspected and it comes up with the code listed above.
I know that the emissions come up with all kinds of stuff I finely got all the other stuff replaced and I have narrowed it down to vent control circuit I was told it is a purge solenoid for the gas tank.
I did some home work and found three items for the gas tank it is a (FUEL VAPOR CANISTER PURGE REGULATOR ) ( FUEL VAPOR CANISTER) ( VALVE CANISTER PURGE VALVE) My question is which would be the one I should change out first the gas cap checks out OK .
Thanks in advance.

p0446 is excessive fuel tank vac. poss. causes.... canister plugged, canister purge solenoid stuck closed, or fuel tank pressure senser. start with the purge valve, that is the most likely cause.

I would check your wiring on that circuit.... clean all connectors and check voltages. Circuit malfunction often means that the circuit can't be checked cause the computer is not getting any response from the sensors on the circuit. It can be either a bad part or a connection issue.

p0446 IS NOT A CIRCUIT CODE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
it just means that your fuel tank can not vent.....mechanical failure.

you have to lower your spare tire down, above that is a set of valves,on the vent valve is a cap that you can remove by just pulling it off, then take a air blower and blow inside that valve you will see a very little bit of dust come out but it does not take much.reassemble, clear codes and you should be good to go.hope this helps
