Ok i'm buying an 86 944 and it has a few problems and I'd like to know a rough estimate of how much it owuld cost to get it all fixed, and wher eI could get parts please. The windshield wiper fluid container has a crack in it, door handles stick/ passenger handle needs to be wiggled to open, sunroof motor doesnt work, a/c doesnt work, he said it just needs charged? The rear windshield wiper doesnt work. Ok, The A/C Not working, and the rear windshield wiper not working don't really bother me. I could live without the sunroof opening by itself but i'd like it, I don't really need windshield wiper fluid, but the doorhandle thing. That bugs me. So if someone could tell me how to fix any of these and where to get parts i'd appreciate it.

Are you going to fix it all yourself? MUCH cheaper. I bought a used wiper fluid tank for $20 at a junkyard and it's an easy swap. Passenger handles might just need to be removed cleaned/oiled... There is a gear the usually strips and the sunroof stops working. I don't know anything about this because my car has the manual roof. The rear wiper could be a few things, bad switch, no power, cut wire... The a/c you need to have a shop who is licensed to work with r-12. Do a search on forums.rennlist.com (http://forums.rennlist.com) to figure out the sunroof and other problems. Parts places are:

Is stuff hard to fix on these? Any online websites that describe most of the stuff, or would you guys be able to tell me all thia? My dad and his friend are trying to discourage me from getting it, saying repairs are going to be thousands for simple little things because it's a porsche blah blah.

Repairs will be thousands unless you can work on it yourself. These cars require alot of maintenance, they are old. Your best sources for info are searching online forums and maybe picking up the Haynes 944 repair manual at your local autoparts store.

Are most repairs all that hard? Like would me and a few somewhat knowledgeable friends be able to pull off most of the not-so-big repairs? Would I be able to do everything mentioned above without having any mechanical knowledge? If I had a book

Maybe, just research what you are about to do online before starting. I knew nothing about working on cars when I started. My dad and I have been restoring this car for 4 years. I am now at the point where I can do almost anything myself. I've had my head off in under 2 hours by myself.

Ok guys, the porsche has 205,000 miles on the car, but only 70,000 on a rebuilt motor.. what do you think about that?

These cars can last forever if they are properly maintained. See if you can get your hands on any of the maintenance records. The fact that the engine was rebuilt already is good...but it really depends on that certain car. Mine had 147k on it and it was DEAD. I also know others who have 300k and the car is nearly perfect.

The person that owned it for the past 9 years or something like that was a professor, and the body and interior is in mint condition. He says it has new belts/clutch then he said etc... so there must be more, it seems as if he has kept it up pretty good

You should really see if the belts being done means Timing & balance shaft belts...
If they haven't been changed and go (break), your out an engine...
Thats a VITAL service that MUST be done every 45k miles or 3 years...
I test drove a 89 maybe 4 years back, had about 225k mile son her and she still ran very strong!
My 86 has just hit 120k and she still drives/runs like new!
