It's rush hour on the freeway, I disengage the clutch to shift and can't pull it outta gear. I try again and now the clutch pedal has no resistance. There really isn't a better time for a clutch to be stuck engaged then 5pm on a weekday. I pull to the shoulder and brake fluid is pissing from under the car. All the fluid in the reservoir has leaked out by now and air got into the hydraulic system. After getting underneath the car I find out the slave cylinder doesn't like DOT3 fluid anymore and let the pavement have it instead. I had to drive my car w/o the clutch all the way home and believe me, 1st gear was not a fun one. And all this on my birthday.

If I had a 10mm wrench and my wallet (forgot it @ home) when all this happened it wouldn't be so bad. I'd just buy some DOT3 at a gas station and bleed the clutch. Since it only leaks fluid when engaging/disengaing clutch, chances are I'd make it home before loosing all the fluid again.

maybe you should start carrying a tool set with you.

A tool set and a flashlight are a must in the car, but I must have forgoten to put the set back in after cleaning the car few weekends ago.
Last night I added DOT3 to the clutch reservoir, bleed the clutch, and made it to work in the morning. I then ordered an aftermarket slave cylinder through the company account, the thing cost me $23 and is listed @ $59.xx. Usually in a situation like this I'd just replace it on my driveway, but this DOT3 brake fluid is almost like acid. Took me less then 20mins to replace the thing at my shop.
