How much do you want to spend? That's the main quesion. Answer this, and you'll get a much better answer.

For a first car, a Honda is fine. Just don't expect much from it at first.
Most Honda's don't break out of the 14s... infact, most don't reach the 14s. There are certainly fast hondas out there, that run very respectable times, but they got there with lots of money and time invested into them.
But for a first car, something that's reliable, economical and something that'll teach you a thing or two about cars. It'll do you good.
Personally, I'd go with a early Mazda Miata MX-5 for a first car. Damn cool cars.

personally id start with a slow ass fwd car first... so go get that honda, then id switch to a quicker rwd car... to get used to rwd. then mod the piss out of it or get a faster one. but if u want a quick one now for not a lot of money id go fox bady mustang also, and they respond very well to mods and have a massive aftermarket.

So does my ass... but that doesn't make it worth a shit to drive.
:icon16:
Kidding, Fox Bodies are good lil cars. Can run massively fast times with not a whole lot done to them.
Also, any TPI 350 F-body from the late 80s, or a 4th Gen LT1 Camaro would be a good choice in a cheap (by todays standards) car.
Don't forget the Nissan 200sx/240sx, 300zx(s), 280zx, 280z, 260z, 240z's, Toyota Celica (older gens), Supra, Corolla's, Mazda Rx-7s and Miatas for good cheap import rwd cars.

1st gen turbo DSM. relatively quick stock and respond very well to mods. If I could do it all over again I would have picked up a nice 1st gen gsx. Either that or more recently I've had my eyes looking around for a good condition Starion.

Your ass responds well to mods? Im sure the inmates at your local prison will be happy to hear that. I hear they do a mean tune up. You might have to upgrade your intake for some of the bigger fellas

I would say a 1g dsm too, but thats only because I have one . I got mine for 1000, ran fine and passed smog easily. If not I would say Miata, 240sx or late 80s Supra. Nothing hotter than a rwd import imo. BUT since this is your first car, go with the civic and drive it around for a year. That should be enough time to make you stop thinking your the best driver in town. (Everyone gets really cocky in the beginning) Then sell it for pretty much the same price as you bought it and go get something else. Having a fast car should be the least of you worries right now.

He is here obviously because he knows nothing, what better place to learn than an automotive web site. Personally, if i could do it all over again i would have saved up as much money as i could and got something a lot quicker. My preference, would be to get a 1987 Buick Grand National, heck, 1300 bucks will get you low 13's. With 25,000 bucks your possibilities are wide open. Find something that you like a lot and if you want it, get it. Then go to our car specific forums and start asking around for ideaS, read stickies and search for advice. This website is full of knowledge, use it to your best abilities.

You see that Bulldog^. That's Josh, our moderator. He knows everything. :)
But what he says is the truth. Let's not discriminate anyone who is new and trying to learn something about cars. This site is solely based on helping those who know absolutely nothing about cars. I first came here not knowing a damn thing either. Here I am to date, I still know nothing, but I am learning more about other cars other than just Hondas.
