new clutch

finally got around to buying a new clutch. i got the act kit.. NX4 HDSS holds 267ft./lbs 'which is probably not any higher than i'll be making. spent $394USD including shipping.. how much have you guys paid to have clutches installed? i don't think i'd be able to do it myself but i know a guy who i could help..

Just did the same thing. Same clutch too. I paid $360 ish for the clutch after shipping and paid a shop another $350 for install.
Doing the install yourself isn't tehcnically difficult, but it requires a lift and a helper to pull it out. So, unless you got a lift, you need a shop...
Of corse, then you need someone good. In my case, I developed a new problem three days later. Now after the car gets warmed up (like 30 minutes driving), the friction point of the clutch moves right up to the top of the pedal throw, and it starts to slip. This goes away after I park for a day. At the risk of stealing this thread, anyone heard of this problem? Solutions? (other than going back and yelling at the shop guy, which I will have to do anyways)...

Oh, yeah. The reason the shop was so expensive was they re-finished my flywheel too.

i paid 300 for my stage 3 spec clutch, but i got it off of a person not an actual shop.

i think i'm just gonna find a hookup to get it done.. i know the owner of jrek autocare very well and he sends all his mechanical work to another shop (he's strictly detailing at his shop)..

alex, how's the clutch treating you now?? same deal? and when did you install it?

cory, didn't you put in the same clutch?? or was it tat?

its not too hard to do it yourself. re-surface of the fly shouldnt be more than $30. i changed my clutch with me and a friend with a jack. only took a coulple hours. just gotta use some muscle and determination. but hey if you cant find someone they i guess you have to pay. good luck tho

the tq rating for the ACT HDSS is very underated. there are a few people out there making around 400whp on that clutch and no problems. i'll let you know how it holds up when i get my new T04E in running 1 bar of boost.

i had teh same prob with my new clutch, just lay your seat back, tilt teh wheel up and get under your dash by your clutch pedal, you have to adjust the clutch rod. there is a rod with locking nut attached to the clutch pedal, you need to loosen the nut, and turn the rod (counter-clockwise in your case) until the pedal just returns to the fully out position when you push it in and let go. then just tighen the nut back up, and done. its tight in there, and easy to get frustrating, but once youve done it once, its cake.

also remember, ive found that a little turn on the clutch rod goes a long way, its very easy to over-do it

if your clutch is slipping hardcore, then you might need your flywheel resurfaced, just take a look at it, you can tell where the clutch smacks against the flywheel because that point will be lower, but in that lower portion if there is scratches or lowpoints then you need to get it resurfaced, otherwise i wouldnt even bother, i didnt resurface mine, mine was in real good condition, and mine sure is holding great.just trying to save you some time/money.

As far as the actual ACT goes, I love it when it is working. good clamping power.
