I have a 1990 Honda CRX w/ a new V-Tech engine. The original hood flew off so now it's replaced by a civic hood but i can't open it and if i do open it i can't close it. It's not the correct hood. There's one problem...because of the new engine, the engine sits to high so I can't get a regular hood. I need to get a raised hood. I orginally wanted to get a carbon fiber hood but my mechanic said it would split in half cause of the engine hitting the hood. Can anyone tell me what kind of hood i can get that would be raised that will fit and won't split? Thanks!!!

Did you put a b16 dohc vtec engine in your crx? You need a crx hood. I think it depends on the mounts used. I've heard of hoods causing no issues of clearance and others just barely scraping the edge of the valve cover.

I bought the car like this so I don't how the mounts are. I have a 1.6 Liter SOHC V-Tech motor. So you think the CRX hood would actually not scrape? The other thing is the latch/bracket that holds the hood on is not the right one either...so I would have to replace both right?

yep, my b18c1 into my 5th gen barely hit the hood... a little hammer fixed that problem.... you could trim the support where it hits if you dont want to buy another hood.

just use a CRX hood, and see how it fits. The CRX Si's came with 1.6 engines, which should be the same size as the the d16z6/d16y8 physically, and their hoods never had clearance problems with the hood.

I'll try the CRX hood and see how it works. Thanks for the help! If it doesn't work I'll be back! :iceslolan

If it dosn't work, go get new mounts. My b16 sits just fine and didn't rub my stock hood at all. Had to get a new one because I got in a accident, but that day I had a brand new Carbon Fiber ZC hood. If your having clearance issues, maybe the SiR carbon fiber hood can fit. It bubbles outward as opposed to inward of the USDM hoods.

I was told that a Carbon Fiber hood will crack??? :eek7:

My stock hood cleared my B16 just fine, but my carbon fiber one sits on one spot of the valve cover. No biggie, but it melts the fiberglass onto the valve cover and it makes it look poopy.
CF is very flexy, I doubt that it would crack.

i was pondering a similar question the other day. I may swap the crx engine in my 91 hatchback with a b16a g1 somewhere down the road. but long before i do that im going to get a carbon fiber hood, so should i get a VIS SiR style carbon fiber hood, which has the raised middle (i think...), to accommodate a b16a g1 just incase i dicide to get one?
