Guys - ordering up my DET next week - cleaning the garage right now :( Anyways I had a question for you guys as far as engine transport - I'm having it shipped to my uncles warehouse since he has a dock and I then plan on loading it into my truck - now my question that comes in is for when I get home lol.... I don't own a cherry picker - will I have to rent one to get the thing in the garage or what? I was thinking about picking up an engine stand from harbor frieght with hopes that it will be tall enough to bolt the engine to it while in the truck then roll it into the garage so I can clean it, drool over it, and change the bearings :-P Since this is my first swap any comments would be appreciated. Also I've found these little wheel dolly things to be quite handy, I've been helping my uncle restore a classic car and we have the parts car sitting on these, its a metal thing that each tire sits in with 4 casters so you can spin the car, move it sideways, whatever while in the garage..... Anyways thanks for any info you may be able to provide....
Chris

You need to get a hold of James McColl. He's in Toronto as well. He knows a guy who will do a DET swap for a really good price (a lot less than you were quoted).

Here is some info on how to subscribe to the SERCA Canada mailing list. You should be able to contact him there.

Here is the SERCA Canada web site. I know you can get a hold of him here.

You may want to reconsider the delivery. I was worried as hell myself. But, the transport company that delivered to my house carried a forklift on their truck. They put the engine on my garage floor exactly where I wanted it. I paid a slight premium for home delivery because of this, but it was very much worth it.

I recommend one 4 wheels instead of 3 just for stability. Get a drip pan from Summit as well. It was well worth the money to me.

I bolted the bracket to the engine while it was in the truck when I bought my first spare engine. It worked out OK, but I was lucky I didn't kill myself.
:jump:

The DET will come on a pallet, so unless your truck is really low, I think you'll have trouble doing this and it will be very dangerous.

Good luck. If you need any more advice, ask away. :)

we have a big van for DR so i just stuffed the motor in the back of the van and took the motor home...depending on the trucking company, some delievers it in a small truck and they expect you to have a cherry picker to get the engine off or about 4 guys to get the motor down..that's what i did.
since you ddint get the motor from me, first thing you should check is the turbo itself..i have seen some pretty bad condition ones where the housing is cracked...also, you need to check the oil pan, most engine places just drop the motor on the floor and it might have damaged the oil pan.
again, anyone getting the motor from me, i will inspect all possible damages (visually) before shipping it out. FWD DET motors from me will be $1500 plus shipping

Thanks for the tips - Luke the place I'm buying it from checks the turbo, does a compression test, and runs the engine before selling it I was told it would take a few days until he found a good one......

As for getting the engine off the truck, I bought an engine stand yesterday, the one I got is the 4 wheel type per Geo's advice and it looks to be perfect height as far as being about 6" higher than the truck bed...... Where should I expect to bolt the stand mounts to? Any hints on that one lol?

Thanks guys.
Chris

buy new bolts...13mm or so and bolt the engine stand to the tranny housing of the motor
