Radio Code

We have a 98 Olds Silhouette and just replaced the battery. The radio is now locked. Any idea where I can get the code for free? I've seen plenty of sites out there offering to sell me the code for a ridiculous amount of money. Also, anyone ever done this and can tell me how to?

I was lucky, it was pencilled on top of the radio.

Some are programmed by the dealer. My mom has a 99 Monte Carlo and the code was hand written in the owners manual. In my 98 Trans Sport I programmed the code that I wanted into the radio. You can take it to the dealer and they will charge you to unlock it in most cases. Once you do get it unlocked you can change the code to whatever you like, or you can disable it by programming the code 0000 into it... You can sit there and try every code into it until it unlocks, Or go to your favorite 12volt audio dealer and get an aftermarket installed...
