OBD question

I was under the impression that all cars 1996 and newer were OBD2. Is this true for the 96 'lude?

what does obd2 mean, and whats obd1 and what does that mean as far as a car goes? anything i need to know about that? I also got a 96 Lude SI

OBD stands for OnBoard Diagnostics. In 1996 cars were switched over to a new version of the OBD (OBD2) in order to reduce emissions.
92-95=OBD1
96+=OBD2
OBD2 was also split into two sections, OBD2a and OBD2b. The split occured in 98-99ish, I can't remember off the top of my head.
