major conversion for my 3000gt

ok, thanks for at least havin an interest in my hopeful stooper.

I have a 1992 mitsubishi 3000gt, non turbo, I'm definatley not car savvy, but I know that even mine is enough to outrun almost anything on the road here, but it's not what I want it to be.

I wanted to know if anyone would have any idea if it would be possible to convert my car into an all-wheel-drive, and then drop a lotus esprit v8 twin turbo motor into it, and if it is possible, I'd kinda like to know how much money we're talkin here. I know it's gonna be a lot, but I want to make my own car, how I want it, from what I have, if at all possible.

for the price, you might as well just buy the lotus

Well if you could get ahold of a lotus that was somehow damaged but the drivetrain ok. The price of that, plus a saw, a welder, and lots of metal.
Unless your paying someone to do this. Then I would say about 2-3x the cost of the lotus.

yeah I figured that it would cost quite a bit of money, but in the long run that's ok I guess. the 3000gt is my favorite car and I plan on it being my "hobby" for a long long time, I think that in the end it would be worth the feeling I got when I put it in shows and such.

would the lotus esprit v8 fit in the front end of my 3000gt?

what kind of horsepower would that give it?

how much of a difference would the V8 make than putting in a VR-4 and buying a racing chip, other than a whole lot of work and being able to say that I have a Lotus Esprit pushing my car?

I guess I have a whole lot of questions, but thanks for replying to them.

I was always under the impression that the v8 TT wasnt that good of an engine. Either way the V8 will in no way go under the hood. Its a mid engine longitudinal engine car, so you would need to put the engine in the rear of the car making AWD damn near impossible.

Spec for Esprit V8 is 350 Bhp and 295 lb-ft of torque... You can easily beat that by rebuilding the 2ng Gen 3000GT TT engine with stronger parts and bigger turbos.

The advantage of the esprit wasn't that the engine was powerful but that the car weighed next to nothing. So putting a stock esprit engine in (even if it would fit) would be like putting a 350Z engine in it.

I would avoid trying to engine swaps like this until you at least are "mechincally inclined" because even if you don't do the work yourself, you need to know what compromises the shop is doing mechanically if they are cutting up your car and fabricating new pieces to make things fit.

Just so you know... Mods like this might make your car faster in a straight line... But it won't be fun to drive because most likely it will decrease the boddy stiffness and it will feel sloppy on the road.

Not only is it near impossible, it's pointless. The lotus engine is only a 3.5L Twin Turbo and even with 2 extra cylinders it only makes 30 more hp. It does a half a second better than the 3.0L Twin Turbo stock vs. stock in the quarter mile. Few basic upgrades will get you past the Lotus's speed range on a TT 3S motor. Basically it'd be a hell of a lot of work for not much of a profit.

Now if you start talking Callaway twin-turbo engine, or Viper Henessey engine...neither of which is remotely possible...then it may be worth the time and effort.
