need help opening javascript pages

hey whats going on? ok this is the deal, i cant seem to open links... for example im on a webpage and i go to click on job oppertunities (a link) and when i lay my mouse over the link on my bottom left corner of IE (internet explorer) is says java script blah blah blah about the link... i click on it and it does nothing. it acts like it never was clicked... i downloaded java from java.com and still cant... any ideas? i know it can be fixed with settlngs or something like that.... by the way i also tried with aol and still a problem... i have no pop up blockers... i have xp operating system. can someone help?
