my friend accidently put 4 gallons of diesel in my 92' cherokee!
I put 10 gallons of premium fuel in it (it already had 5 gallons of regular) and tried starting it up again, and it starts and I can rev it a few times but then it shuts off again:( it feels like the pumps not putting gas up there, could it be my oxygen sensor?? when I rev it, it smokes out the back so I know it's burning the diesel but it won't stay on long enough for me to do much:( please help!

GOT THIS ALL SOLVED, DILUTE IT DOWN AND DRIVE IT A LITTLE BIT THEN CHECK YOUR PLUGS, (Note I had 4 gallons of diesel to 16 of unleaded)

that's what I was gonna do but I had at least 5 people tell me (including the two mechanics here) to just add primium gas and let the diesel burn out...

Dilution is the solution to this polution of your (lack of) revolution.

You have already diluted it some. Drain atleast 10 gallons out and fill with 10 gallons fresh gas and use regular, it will burn easier.

If it still runs crappy, do it again.

The fuel you remove can be added back in in small amounts (couple of gallons) every time you fill up....

Don't think this would have damaged anything else but give it a try....

Change the fuel filter, allow the fuel line to drain AND drain the tank.

Then remove the tank, remove the fuel sender unit, rinse it out with several spray cans of brake cleaner. Make sure it dries with no residue.

Install the tank fill it and drive it until it stops smoking. You may have to get a mechanic to run some proper fuel injector cleaner down it (NOT the cheap stuff you put in the gas tank.

Do not keep or use the diesel contaminated stuff that you drain from the tank.

The key here is diesel leaves parrafin wax deposits that do not wash away readily. This wax gets everywhere and will affect the performance of the injectors.

Finally slap your friend on the head.
