86 Starion VS. 92 Prelude.

This is the first official race for the Starion since I got it. I had the heads rebuilt and the jet valves elliminated a few months ago and just did a complete re-built on the steering box. any way took it out for a spin today to show my dad how strong the steering is now. My old man loves the car, despite the rought and ages outter shell he likes the look of it.
anyway after a 15 minute cruise I pulled over to get some gas and told him to drive back home. He was taking it slow untill we pulled to a red light and a guy in a 92 prelude pulled up next to us. hw had his girl sitting shotgun and some ghetto rap music blasting. he didnt even look at us but both me and my old man where anoyed by the loud crappy thumping so when it went green the old man hammered it in first to like 4K and left the prelude back a few feet. the guy never recovered but as the traffic got heavier we slowed down and he caught up. my dad drove slowly and calmly through the mess but the guy was ridding our tail the whole time.
as we broke into a clearing my dad was in forth at like 2800 rpm doing just past 55 mph. the lude opened up to our left (driver side) and tryed to gun it past us. I thought the old man was gonna let him go. BULLSHIT. he dropped it into 3rd as smooth as ever kicked up the revs to like 3200 where the car makes good torque and that turbo started to build boost. the lude got to the driver door and then started to fall back
at 4500 rpms he shifted to forth and the BOV sneezed letting the guy know that it was indeed a turbo. at this point he was just behind us.
my dad rode 4th on full boost to about 5K and just dusted him. at the next light the guy pulled up next to us and asked the usual. what is it, what does it have, how fast ect...
my dad was polite and said he wassnt messing with him, he just wanted to get away from the ghetto tunes.

btw. my Starion is just begining its new life. right now its stock except for the head and suspension. its only making between 185-190 Hp and 200-215 torque. its about mid to low 16s quick.

when did you get the Starion?... I missed that part.

I like those cars, rare to see them around. Butt ugly cars for the most part, but it's got that boxy hatchback look from the 80s I love.

They've got more gauges stock than the Space shuttle too.

I got it a year and a half ago. I was actually looking for a 240sx to do a Silvia conversion and try to learn a little drifting action. one day my wife found one in the auto trader and we went to look at it. the car ran, it was ugly as hell but it ran! I Knew all the history of the Starion cause Im a freaking Mitsubishi fanboy! so I bought it, been restoring it ever since.

Once I learned about the Chrysler conquest I wanted one. I never see em' around so it would be pretty original. What is the 2.6 capable of with bolt-ons?

with just bolt ons, around 240-260 hp. With internals and a performance head + more boost they can hit 300-340 whp. there are lots of guys on Starquestclub.com that have 350+ whp but I havent seen one like that personally. the parts are dirt cheap which makes it easy for me to built it up.
some guys have done engine swaps with SR20s, RB26s, V8s and 4G63s.
there was yellow 85 that had a 4G63 and ran 8 seconds so I guess there are lots of options.

they run 16s stock but no, im not sure MINE'S runs 16s, I have to get times on it to be sure. the curb weight is 3037lbs.

Pictures? eh, it'll be a while before I post pics. its missing the front lip and one fender is a different color from the rest of the car, it really looks bad right now but I'll get around to fixing that too.

The next step is to get four new tires, reform and repaint the rims (hyper black). new exhaust system and new brake kit.

Nice kill... Starions have always been sweet cars. They were the thing before the Eclipse was born. I've seen some sites with custom Starions rocking 4g63s and are just sweet looking. I haven't seen one with an RB26 but I'm sure it would be jaw-dropping.

I think they are awesome looking cars. They look a good deal like the early Supra. These are the cars that really started the Sport car market in Japan. When I totaled the first GTC I was looking at a lot of different cars. This was one of them but I couldn't find one that impressed me. They all drove like turds and the seats were like sitting on wood. I assume the few that I drove weren't taken care of. One was even smoking from the turbo. It sounds like you got a nice one with a strong engine. I still want to get one for a project car sometime. Maybe once I get finished with the GTC and then finish the TT Stealth project that I plan to take on after the GTC I'll get one of these.

I can't wait to hear more about the car and see some pics once you get it cleaned up man!

Just junk the GTC. Move on. You know you want to...:evillol: Although, the Stealth sounds like a better project for you. Plus, I think it will look so much better than the GTC.

i kno a guy that used to have a GN motor in it n was hittin 13s...i dont kno how much work he put into it but it was a quick car...somethin went wrong with it every week tho...

Besides, I don't have any money to work on the GTC that means I wouldn't have any money to work on a Stealth either.

I like the GTC, its got that not-seen-so-often factor that I like. I dont mean like a sleeper, I dont buy into that trend, but the whole rarerity of the car just makes it so much more awsome.

As for the Stealth, they are very expensive to mod. The whole reason I got the Starion instead of investing into a turbo-conversion for the 3000GT or a trade in for a VR-4 is cause of the cost effectiveness of the matter. I can make the Starion just as fast for 1/3 of the cost. I figure getting into the 12's will run me about 5K. a supercharger for the 3000GT would run 4K and only get me into the low 14s.

The answer....a vr4!
